Night lenses to restore vision

Many have heard about day lenses, but no night lenses. This is a new word in vision correction. What is orthokeratology?

Orthokeratology (the use of night lenses) is a relatively new method of improving vision in children and adults without surgical intervention, using night lenses. It consists in the selection and wearing of special lenses at night. The effect is achieved due to the influence of a special profile of a night contact lens on the curvature of the cornea during a person’s sleep. After removing night lenses, the effect lasts up to 24 hours without additional correction.

Indications for the use of night lenses

The most preferred orthokeratological lenses for correction are myopia up to -6 diopters and astigmatism up to -1.75 diopters. Contraindications for wearing night lenses

Absolute contraindications that do not allow the use of orthokeratological (night) lenses are as follows: 

  • Any inflammatory diseases of the anterior segment of the eye and eyelids
  • Severe dry eye syndrome 
  • Keratoconus, keratoglobus, pellicidal marginal degeneration
  • Severe nystagmus (involuntary, frequent and frequent eyeballs) making selection of night lenses impossible
  • Expressed lagophthalmos - the impossibility of completely closing the eyelids.
